On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Missouri residents were given the opportunity to vote on various candidates and issues. From this election, Parkway North Alumni and Democratic candidate Jill Schupp won the general election for State Senator of District 24 and Proposition S passed.

Retired social studies teacher Bob Goode, who supported Schupp, recalls having her as a student.

“I had Jill Schupp as a student back in 1974,” said Goode. “I [like] her personality and the fact that she is willing to work with all groups.”

Campaigner Lynn Shirley stood outside Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, a polling place, to support Schupp.

“I’m thrilled about the process, I just get excited about it,” said Shirley.

Schupp supported the passing of Proposition S which would provide $110 million to the Parkway School District for various improvements and repairs.

Mother Jennifer Sanders was excited to vote for the Parkway bond. Considering Sanders has children in school, school safety is a priority to her and her family. Her husband worked on a beta test of a school security system that could detect the fire of a gunshot.

“I want it to pass for the school,” said Sanders.

The election even caught the attention of students at North. Senior Katherine Larson supported the passing of Proposition S, and intends to vote next year once she turns 18.

I probably would have voted yes for it because I know it doesn’t increase the tax rate,” said Larson.

Voters approved Proposition S with 73% of the vote. Maintenance and repairs are expected to start next summer.
