7th Annual Trunk or Treat Hosted Indoors

- This year is the seventh annual trunk or treat hosted by the safe drug free program at Parkway North High School, the only high school Trunk or Treat in the district. However, due to the cold and wet weather conditions, Trunk or Treat was held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the big gym and commons.
- The K-Pop club begins decorating their indoor “trunk” with music, lights, and plenty of dance moves. Being in the gym and commons allowed more space for games and design than the typical outdoor setup.
- Senior Bernadette Doray puts the finishing touches on the “trunk” for the National Honors Society with the theme of James Bond. While she still prefers it being outside, Doray acknowledged the good that came from an inside trunk or treat. “The wind didn’t blow our decorations away like in past years. Everyone was much closer together and you could see everyone’s creativity,” said Doray.
- Once the event started, the kids were eager to collect candy and play all the games set out by the tables. The cheerleaders theme was Candyland, and kids could play a simpler version of the game.
- There was a lot of creativity and interaction during this year’s trunk or treat. Drumline students had drums out that kids could play, while every now and then a student would do a small demonstration.
- Besides the tables in the gym, there were also many more tables and games in the upper and lower commons for more space and fun. “We have an enormous amount of trunks, which the trunks are going to be tables. This gives them a good opportunity to get a lot of candy in a short amount of time and have fun and play games, in a warm environment,” said safe and drug free leader Julie DeCaro.
- Cross Country boys went all out with a Pokemon theme, where kids could throw a toy pokeball at some toy Pokemon to “catch” them. Being indoors didn’t cause much change from their original plan for the game. “If it’s cold again next year, I’d have no complaints keeping it inside,” said junior and cross country team member Michael D’Alfonso.
- The thespian troupe presented their Spring musical through their theme of Seussical the Musical. Members dressed as different Seussical characters and there were a couple themed games the kids play. In addition to getting candy, kids were also given flyers about the musical.
