On Thursday, May 8, senior baseball player Cameron Frierson signed with Harris-Stowe University inside the Parkway North High School Gymnasium.
“Playing at Parkway North has been a journey I was willing to wait out. I sacrificed things during my consecutive years of playing baseball to reach my goal. It all paid off, which I am so grateful for. It’s only up from here,” Frierson said
Signing for college is a big deal because it opens the door to better job opportunities, higher earning potential, and personal growth.
“College is a big deal to me. It’s all I aimed for when I was at Parkway North. I saw myself going to college earlier and feel like it’s a big step in my life,” Frierson said.
Beyond the techniques and skills that come with a sport, playing sports teaches an athlete time management, responsibility, respect, social skills, etc.
“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. I have grown as a person and as a ball player. Baseball or any sport is not just for the sport; it’s also to help you learn life lessons and become a man,” Frierson said.
After signing with a college, someone might feel a mix of excitement for the future, relief that the decision is made, and maybe a bit of nervousness about the changes ahead. It’s a big step, so a lot of emotions are normal.
“Going up there to sign was very shocking to do. I have always wanted to do things like this since I was young. I love the support I always had from my friends, my girlfriend, my parents, and family,” Frierson said.
Beyond the classroom, college will offer an opportunity for Frierson to build lifelong friendships and discover new interests.
“I see college as having all different types of opportunities. Such as taking my baseball career to the next level, learning new things, and starting a new journey,” Frierson said.
As Frierson leaves the Parkway North campus, the Vikings will continue to support him and the path he decides to take.
