North Boys Basketball Lose First Game 45-44

On Nov. 21, the varsity boys listen to the pledge of allegiance before their first game, hoping to get a win. Last year’s team won two games all season.
Senior Keylan Mitchell shoots a free throw right before the end of second quarter, letting Parkway West know that they are still in the game. They were down at the half.
Varsity cheerleaders bring up the energy halfway through second quarter, trying to keep the players’ energy and heads up, letting them know they can still come back.
Coaches Mason Washington and Russell Vincent come out after halftime looking more focused than ever knowing they still have a lot to do to win the game. “At halftime, we came in with a new game plan knowing we had a lot to do we were focused,” sophomore Andrew Griffin said.
Early in the third quarter, the coaches call a timeout to meet with the team, slow everything down and get everyone calm and reset. “Second half, we got off to a bad start but after the timeout, we did bring the energy up and started scoring a lot,” senior Darric Smith said.
Cheerleaders bring up the energy after Mitchell hit a free throw to only bring them down by one late in the fourth quarter.
Unable to get off another shot, the Vikings call a timeout. They were down 45-44 with 38 seconds left, looking to make a miracle and waste time on the clock and score.
Huddled up during the end of the game, the players try to keep their heads up even though they lost in a close game, 47-44. The Vikings went on to win their next game 69-42 against Parkway South on Nov. 28.
